Parents are required to accompany their child into the Center and deliver to a staff person. Please be careful in the parking lot. (You can never tell when a child may dart away from a parent.) Feel free to use the two kiss & ride parking spots in front of the center.

When departing, please make sure that a staff member is aware of your child's departure. All new pick up people will be checked for identification.

Policy

Operating Hours
Capital Kids is open 7:15 a.m. - 6:15p.m. Monday through Friday (The Woodbridge location is open 5:30 a.m. - 6:30 p.m. Monday through Friday). The Center will be closed on all Federal Holidays and snow days. In case of a major day time snow storm during working hours, parents should come immediately to the Center to pick up their children. (Parents are encouraged to listen to local radio and TV stations when poor snow conditions arise.)

Visitation
The Center is open to parent visitation, enabling parents to observe the children in their learning environment. Parents must understand that children MAY NOT be released to anyone except those persons with specific written permission. Teachers will release children to ALL parents unless a Court Order indicating sole custody for one parent/guardian is provided to the office.

Education
The intent of Capital Kids' educational program is to provide the best possible learning environment for children and to extend opportunities to parents to increase their understanding of child development. In order to enhance each child's development of self esteem, social, emotional, physical, and intellectual skill, the daily program includes:

  • A routine of daily activities that each child can count on.
  • Staff/child interactions that are warm, nurturing and compassionate.
  • Activities that are consistent with the child's developmental interest and experiences. Each Child will learn to make choices, to problem solve, and most importantly, experience the freedom that comes from understanding. their environment, and doing things for themselves.

Food Service
Food for children in the infant room must be provided by parents. Breakfast, Lunch and a mid-day snack are provided for all other children. A sample menu is provided here.

Discipline Policy
Parents agree to support and reinforce Center rules and procedure that concern the health and safety of the children. The use of discipline is very rare at Capital Kids. If necessary we will use time out. Never will children be spoken to in a derogatory manner. When necessary we will bring in the parents to help with a child's problems. Children who become abusive either verbally or physically ( i.e. biting) to others will be removed from the classroom and parents notified. Repeat offenders will be requested to leave the school.

District of Columbia Law and Health Department Regulations
All suspected child abuse will be reported by Capital Kids to Social Services as per the D.C. Laws.

Parents understand that children may not attend Capital Kids, Inc. with any illness that threatens the health of the other children. Health Department regulations governing periods of infection will be enforced. Any child with temperature over 100 degrees must go home.

Dismissal
Our policy is to provide the best child care possible for all the children at Capital Kids. To do this, however, it may become necessary of the center to discharge a child for one of the following reasons:

  1. Needs of the individual child cannot be served by the Center
  2. Parents are uncooperative, such as, but not limited to:
    1. failure to pay fees
    2. failure to submit required child health forms
    3. failure to observe rules of the Center relating to arrival and departure
  3. Behavior of child is deemed detrimental to the other children at the Center (i.e. Children who have a problem with biting)
In the event it becomes necessary to have a child leave the program, ( in the case of biting etc.) 48 hours notice will be given by the Director.

Activities
We expect all children to participate in all outdoor activities unless you bring a statement from you family doctor. Usually there will be some time spent outside each day: therefore, please anticipate weather conditions and dress your child accordingly. If your child is too sick to go outside, then your child is too sick to be at Capital Kids.

Please notice when you enroll your child you give up your right to sue capital Kids or it’s staff. Instead, any disagreements will be submitted to an arbitration company selected by Capital Kids and a neutral umpire will resolve disputes in a informal private proceeding. The decisions will be final and binding and cannot be appealed.

Please feel free to contact Helen Marinello, Director, with any questions or concerns.
